Christian Matchmaker is a relatively well known Christian dating site mostly used in the United States. It’s got some nice features, especially when using it through a smart phone. However, there’s been a number of negative user reviews online. How do we rank ChristianMatchmaker.com in our independent review?
ChristianDatingForFree.com claims to be the largest free community for Christian singles. With paid sites costing up to $30 per month, can an unpaid option live up to the same standards? Some of our initial questions and doubts going into this review:
- Is it really 100% free, or are there some hidden charges?
- Will a free service have more spam and fake accounts than their paid alternatives?
- Given that it’s free and easy to join, how will user activity and membership numbers compare?
- Are the managers of the website Christian, or do they have many different variations of the same free niche dating sites?
- How do these sites make their money? Is it true they sometimes sell user data?
What is ChristianConnection.com?
Christian Connection is a popular dating site for Christians, with many of its users based in the UK and Australia. Founded in England in 2000, it has recently expanded to other countries including the USA and Canada. It was a founding member of the ‘Online Dating Association‘, a collaboration of about 20 dating sites which hope to raise industry standards. Whilst this industry body claims to have very worthwhile aims, it remains to be seen whether its existence is primarily to act in the interests of its corporate sponsors, or to protect the ordinary users like you and I.
We’ve already documented the 15 most well known Catholic online dating sites. A handful of these are active, well run, safe, Christ centered communities that we can recommend. However, through our research we’ve also found unfinished sites with questionable security, next to zero membership, questionably Catholic motives and other problems. This is our round up of the Catholic dating sites that we would personally give a miss.
What is Catholic Mingle?
Catholic Mingle, first created in 2001, is a sister site to Christian Mingle. These are both owned by Spark Networks, a US based conglomerate which started making niche religious dating sites in 1997. Spark Networks first shot to fame with its hugely popular Jewish dating site, JDate.
Christian Mingle is probably the most popular paid for Christian dating site with over 1.6 million page views a month. Can its Catholic variation live up to the same expectations? Read our review to find out.
What is Catholic Match?
Catholic Match’s story started with two Catholics in Pittsburgh in 1999. Originally called ‘saintraphael.net’, it is still under the patronage of St. Raphael the Archangel – patron saint of happy meetings and lovers. Now it’s probably the largest paid-for Catholic dating site in the world, growing from 2,000 members in 2001 to having had its one millionth registration in 2013.
Aside from their dating website, they’ve begun to branch out more into informational resources and educational events through the Catholic Match Institute.
How does that original Christian goal shape up in terms of an active dating site today? Has it maintained those ethics or become profit-focused and poorly supported? These are the questions we had as we went into our independent review.

For Christians, it’s difficult to choose the right dating site. There are so many websites that are purely to make money rather than provide a good service to genuine believers.
In this site we hope to provide unbiased and independent reviews of the largest Christian dating sites. We’ll also have a look at generic websites, which may still cater to us through search filters.
We review both paid dating websites and free ones. It is hard to see if a website truly is ‘free’, or it’s just a hook to get you to sign up and spam you with offers and hints to ‘upgrade your service’. Well, no more! We do all the hard work for you.
Finally, we provide tips on safety. A big concern with online dating is scammers, who may pretend to be real people just to get you to send money or worse. There’s a few steps you can take to avoid these problems, and some great free/paid services out there. Find more here.
